I'm Off to New Orleans!

Well, I'm ditching Mr. Bean and meeting my best friend from college in the good ol' town of N'Awlins! I have never been before and am really excited about it. We're doing a spa day, a plantation/swamp tour and of course, eatin', drinkin' and listenin' to jazz music! Not to mention we are staying at the most haunted hotel in all of New Orleans!

I'm even bringing Mr. Bean's I-River so I can record some fun. And of course, you'll get another edition of the trip report - New Orleans style!

Has anyone else been? Any recommendations on things to do, places to eat and drink? All suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Now, if I could only get through the next two days . . . .

  • Two places to eat...one cheap...one not. For a cheap but very Nawlins lunch go to the Central Grocery on Decataur Street for a Mufaletta sandwich at the place it was invented. (Split it with your friend...trust me on this one). As for not cheap have dinner at Nola on ST. Louis Street. This is one of Emeril Lagasse's funky informal restaurant. By far the meal I had there was the best meal I have ever eaten.

  • thanks Bob - sounds awesome to me! I'm also going to bring home a muffaletta for Mr. Bean, along with some beignets from Cafe du Monde!

  • If you can get in, check out the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. They have several shows a day. You get crammed into a sweaty room and a bunch of old guy play some wicked music. But you won't hear better traditional N'Awlins music.

  • I had a blast visiting NOLA. Be sure to check out a voodoo shop, the psychics on the riverfront (they appear during the evenings amongst burning candles and incense)...and the strip clubs (with MALE strippers!) were much fun. After sitting through 10 minutes at the "front" stage (sweaty stinky GIRLS), I politely asked the cocktail waitress when the GUYS would be onstage...she blushed and escorted me to the OTHER stage...hot guys!! She seated me at the very front, I had the whole place to myself...the guys put on a great show and invited me backstage for a lap dance...they promised "full satisfaction"...!! I was too shy to do it. Also, the "New Orleans Cooking School" makes for a fun 1/2 day...you watch as the chef prepares Gumbo, Red Beans & Rice, Bread Pudding, and Pralines. You then get a VERY FILLING lunch, and a hand-out packet with all the recipies.

Um, thats what I found in NoLa when I visited. I'm sure you'll find your own unique set of experiences.
